Introduction
Intamin has gained a reputation in the world for providing high quality and innovative products for the amusement park, theme park and entertainment market. In 1967 the two brothers, Robert and Reinhold Spieldiener together with their colleague Alfons Saiko, founded the company and rapidly gained a reputation for providing high quality, innovative and reliable amusement rides and people mover systems.
It quickly became apparent to them that the market needed a new approach to Amusement and Theme Parks in the USA.
Building up an in-house engineering and design capability allowed them to expand rapidly developing increasingly complex and interesting ride systems and supplying these to over thirty countries around the world. Increasingly the fabrication requirements meant that they were called on to provide state of the art products to a worldwide market in short periods of time. It was these demands that drove the ability to design, build and supply high class equipment with relatively short lead times. Using in-house facilities for certain production and outsourcing to a number of select and approved sub-suppliers ensures that their philosophy of quality and service is maintained .
The first contract was for an Observation Tower and this was quickly followed by a request from the same client to look at an amusement ride in the true sense and the rest is history with the development of a number of amusement ride systems, water rides and different types of Panorama Towers.
In the early years they also represented Schwarzkopf, the leader at the time in Roller Coasters and high quality Amusement Rides. They took a leading role in the relationship by commissioning and financing the development of new coasters including the first steel coaster with a real loop which went to Six Flags Magic Mountain ( and which took a starring role in the film ‘Roller Coaster’ ).
Following the demise of Schwarzkopf, they assured the continued support of their clients by acquiring the rights to Schwarzkopf rides.
At this time they had developed a strong brand in the market and were busy developing their own range of rides including such favorites as the Rapids Ride, Barnstormer, Swiss Bob, Stand Up Coaster and many more. A look at the list of amusement rides found around the world will quickly identify the company’s importance as the major innovator and supplier of rides to the amusement industry.
This drive to innovate and stay at the head of the industry continues unabated under the current management. A network of after-sales and sales support offices has been put in place.
