Sky Jump – Falcon’s Fury

On August 16, Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida, allowed the first guests to experience a new dimension of free fall rides, exceeding all thrill seekers expectations. Located in the middle of the newly designed area, ‘Panatopia’, the Sky Jump or ‘Falcon’s Fury’ as this attraction is named by the park is a one of a kind free fall tower. With a height of 102 meters, ‘Falcon’s Fury’ is North America’s tallest freestanding drop tower. Despite the impressive height, it is especially the position of the riders in which they are experiencing the free fall – just like a skydiver.
Based on the same principles as Intamin’s Gyro Drop (however without rotation), a ring structure carrying eight vehicles, each four passengers, rises up along the tower structure. On the way up, the passengers with their feet dangling can enjoy the view before the seats are tilting 95 degrees forward while approaching the top of the tower. Once at the top, the vehicle stops for a few seconds with the passengers in a horizontal position just like skydivers. Everything that goes up must go down. When the catch car releases the vehicle, the vehicle reaches a top speed of 95 km/h allowing the passengers to experience a flying sensation. The seats are moving backwards when approaching the braking section and take the passengers back to a vertical position like skydivers when they open their parachute. Intamin’s Sky Jump is another milestone in the development of free fall towers and guarantees extreme sensations never experienced before.
